A stunning new gallery, housing the North East’s largest collection of mining art, has opened this month in Bishop Auckland.
The Mining Art Gallery, which is part of The Auckland Project regeneration plan, is housed in the former Old Bank Chambers in the town’s Market Place. It is home to three permanent galleries and one temporary exhibition space. The gallery explores working life in the coal mines through original artefacts and artwork from prominent mining artists such as Tom McGuinness and Norman Cornish.
