Photography competition to shine a light on Durham

Visit County Durham is looking for a stand-out photograph to shine a light on Durham in 2017.

The tourism agency is engaging with photographers to run a competition to find a stunning image to feature on the front cover of the 2017 Durham Pocket Guide, the official visitor guide for the county.

250,000 copies of the long-running successful guide are distributed across the North East, Cumbria and Yorkshire, as well as being sent out to visitors on request and taken to events and trade shows across the UK.

Competition entries can feature anywhere in Durham, from city to vale, dales to coast, and should aim to inspire visitors to discover more of the amazing county.

Ideas for top images include capturing the county’s iconic buildings and visitor attractions; breathtaking landscapes and views; and the tranquillity of the county's parks, rivers, reservoirs and waterfalls.

The closing date for entries is 30th November 2016. The winning photo will be used on the cover of the 2017 Pocket Guide, and the winner will also win a Durham VIP Pass worth over £400, providing complimentary access to many of the county's top visitor attractions.

Michelle Gorman, managing director at Visit County Durham, said: “This is a chance to show Durham in its best light. Our county is particularly photogenic, with everything from iconic buildings and wonderful attractions to scenic landscapes, so we look forward to seeing a range of inspirational images.”

Visit County Durham will decide on a shortlist which will be put to a public vote on its visitor Facebook page.
