Durham city’s newest accommodation offering has brought together style, sophistication – and a touch of divine intervention.

The Funky Monk serviced apartments have just opened their doors at Victoria Terrace, offering visitors to the historic city the opportunity to stay in lavish surroundings.

The development has been created by Ramside Estates, which also owns Ramside Hall  Hotel, Golf and Spa, Hardwick Hall Hotel and Bowburn Hall Hotel and who have transformed the former flats.

The Funky Monk offers three one bed, one two bedroomed and a three bedroomed penthouse apartment, all with state-of-the-art kitchens, huge living rooms, dining areas and large, free standing copper baths.

Two of the apartments have their own hot tubs, with one also having a sauna.

As well as being a short walk to the city centre, guests can also enjoy the property’s unique artwork, featuring the mythical Brother John, who is the titular Funky Monk.

His story is told throughout the building, thanks to a number of specially commissioned paintings which see Brother John enjoying everything from well known fast food to images that “come alive” at night.

John Adamson, owner of Ramside Estates, believes The Funky Monk will be a huge asset to the city – and the region.

“We’ve been working on the project for some time to ensure it would be exactly how we wanted it and we are thrilled with the result,” he said.

“The sense of fun and uniqueness which has made The Impeccable Pig such a success is what we’ve tried to replicate at The Funky Monk.

“We’ve kept in mind that Durham is a historic city and that’s reflected in the design and the décor, but at the same time it’s the epitome of luxury.
