Publication Date: 12th Nov 2024

Park Head Hotel, in County Durham, is preparing a warm North East welcome this festive season after achieving a 75% quality rating from Visit England.

The hotel’s second visit from the national assessors of quality in tourism and destinations has revealed the Park Head Hotel have made an improvement on their impressive 2023 rating, retained their sought-after Breakfast Award and gained special recognition for their warm welcome to pets, walkers and cyclists.

Andrew Hogg, general manager at Park Head Hotel said, “We’re so pleased to have been awarded this accreditation. It’s a testament to the hard work of our staff – and proves what our much-valued, returning guests know to be true. The Breakfast Award is an achievement we’re really proud of; we think our hearty food, use of locally sourced produce and welcoming service showcases the best of Bishop Auckland.”

Located just outside the town centre, once home of Durham’s Prince Bishop’s for centuries, Park Head Hotel is the perfect destination for a winter getaway with walking routes and world-class attractions on its doorstep, helping the destination achieve its admirable VisitEngland results.

This year, the hotel is partnering with AGLOW the dazzling light trail twinkling amongst the historic buildings and gardens of Auckland Palace, and Christmas at the Palace - a brand-new indoor experience at Auckland Palace brimming with festive charm.

On the Festive Break at Park Head Hotel guests can enjoy dinner, breakfast and a cosy overnight stay as well as entry to AGLOW and Christmas at the Palace and elaborate festive decorations.

Guests staying at Park Head Hotel on peak days can also add AGLOW and Christmas at the Palace tickets to their booking and save 20% on the price of their event ticket.

Additionally, the ‘Twixmas Break’ is available for guests looking to fill the extra time between Christmas and New Year. Welcomed with a mince pie and glass of fizz upon arrival guests can enjoy a two-night stay with breakfast each morning as well as discount on evening meals in the hotel’s Oak Room restaurant. The ‘Twixmas’ Break also includes entry to AGLOW and Christmas at the Palace on one evening of the break.

“This ticket offer will make a night in Bishop Auckland one to remember. We’re gearing up to welcome lots of guests this Christmas period as Bishop Auckland continues to grow in popularity - with its charming town centre, welcoming locals and wealth of heritage, it’s easy to see why it’s a great winter weekend getaway,” added Andrew.

Park Head Hotel will also be hosting its own events across the festive season including wreath making (Friday 22 and Saturday 23 November) and Christmas centerpiece making (Sunday 15 December). Collaborating with local florist, participants are provided with everything they need to create the ultimate festive decorations to use in their own homes.

With festive lunches available to all on Boxing Day and New Years Day, the littlest members of the family can also attend the ‘Christmas Princess Party’ on Saturday 14th December. Led by two special princesses, there will be live signing performances, games with prizes, face glitter, photo opportunities and light refreshments.

The recently refurbished Park Head Hotel, owned and managed by The Auckland Project, is a former 18th century coaching lodge and boasts cosy furnishings perfect for relaxing in, toasty log burners lit throughout the winter, and a friendly team of staff on hand to make sure guests are happy.
